Tokyo Olympics refers to the Summer Olympic Games held in Tokyo, Japan, in 2021. Officially known as the 2020 Summer Olympics, the event was postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, making it the first time in history that the Olympic Games were delayed rather than canceled.

The Tokyo Olympics took place from July 23 to August 8, 2021, with athletes from around the world competing in 33 sports and 339 events. Despite the lack of spectators in most venues due to pandemic restrictions, the games were a major global event, showcasing extraordinary athletic performances.

For India, the Tokyo Olympics were particularly significant as the country secured seven medals, including a historic gold in javelin by Neeraj Chopra, marking India's first-ever Olympic gold in athletics. India also won silver and bronze medals in weightlifting, wrestling, boxing, badminton, and hockey, making it the country's best-ever Olympic performance.

In August 2021, BOOM investigated a fake Twitter account impersonating Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, which was mistakenly reported by Times Now and NDTV India during the Tokyo Olympics.

BOOM found that the account was not Nadeem's official handle and was spreading misinformation. The news outlets fell for the impersonation, misreporting it as genuine.

In August 2021, BOOM investigated a viral video claimed to be from the closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

BOOM found that the video, showing precision walking, was actually at least seven years old and had no connection to the Tokyo Olympics. The video originated from a performance by Nippon Sports Science University.
