Sushant Singh Rajput was a celebrated Indian actor, born on 21 January 1986 in Patna, Bihar. He was known for his dynamic roles in both Bollywood and television. Rajput initially pursued a degree in engineering but left his studies to follow his passion for acting. He began his career as a background dancer and gained fame for his breakout role as Manav Deshmukh in the popular TV series Pavitra Rishta, which earned him several awards and established him as a household name. Rajput transitioned to Bollywood with Kai Po Che! (2013), a critically acclaimed film that showcased his acting talent and won him several accolades.

Rajput's filmography includes a variety of roles, such as portraying real-life characters in M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, where he played the former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, where he played the iconic fictional detective. Other successful films include Chhichhore, which promoted a strong anti-suicide message, and Kedarnath, a love story set against the backdrop of the 2013 Uttarakhand floods. His performances were often lauded for their authenticity, dedication, and versatility, making him one of the promising stars of the industry. Rajput’s untimely death on 14 June 2020 at his Mumbai residence sent shockwaves across India and the global film fraternity. Initially ruled as a suicide, his death sparked widespread public outrage, conspiracy theories, and demands for justice. A series of investigations followed, involving the Mumbai Police, Enforcement Directorate (ED), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The case was marked by controversies related to nepotism in Bollywood, drug allegations, and media sensationalism.

Misinformation surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death was rampant, with false claims and fake news adding to the confusion and controversy. In July 2020, BOOM fact-checked a viral story in which IANS and Jagran reported that a fake Twitter account impersonating Sushant’s father demanded a CBI probe into his death. The news outlets fell for the fake account, further intensifying misinformation around the case.

BOOM clarified that no such statement was made by Sushant's family on Twitter, debunking the false narrative.
