Russia is the largest country in the world, spanning Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. Politically, Vladimir Putin has been a dominant figure, serving as either President or Prime Minister since 1999. His administration has been characterized by a focus on centralizing power, expanding military capabilities, and pursuing assertive foreign policies. Russia’s involvement in the Syrian Civil War and the Russia-Ukraine conflict has garnered international attention, leading to global sanctions and strained relations with Western countries.

Russia has also been a focal point for misinformation, particularly during geopolitical events and diplomatic summits. Fact-checking organizations often verify claims associated with Russia, especially related to its foreign policy, military actions, and global diplomatic engagements.

In October 2024, BOOM fact-checked a viral claim suggesting that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was excluded from the BRICS 2024 leaders’ group photo.

BOOM found out that Modi attended the summit only for the first two days, while the viral video was from the final day of the event. Modi was, in fact, photographed with world leaders on the second day, debunking the misleading claim.
