Old Modi-Putin “Anything for Me” Video Falsely Linked to SCO Summit

An old video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi bidding farewell to Russian President Vladimir Putin during his 2024 visit to Moscow is being shared on social media with the false claim that it is from the recently concluded Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China.

PM Modi attended the 25th SCO summit on August 31 to September 1, 2025, where he met Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Putin. The two leaders reaffirmed their strategic partnership, discussed trade, energy, and security, and even shared a car ride after the summit. The bilateral meeting between Modi and Putin comes just days after United States President Donald Trump slapped a sweeping 50% tariff on Indian exports over India’s purchase of Russian oil.

      What We Found:

      1) Video from 2024

A reverse search showed that the video is from July 9, 2024, during PM Modi’s visit to Moscow, Russia, and not from the SCO Summit in Tianjin.

A longer version of the video was posted by Bloomberg News on YouTube on July 11, 2024, showing PM Modi bidding farewell to Putin at the end of his two-day visit to Moscow.

Additionally, we also found still photo from this interaction posted by Russian state-owned outlet Sputnik Mediabank. This can be seen below:
