A deepfake is a manipulated video or audio recording created using artificial intelligence to depict individuals saying or doing things they never did.

BOOM has debunked several deepfake videos that have gone viral during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with false claims.

We have come across several posts with AI-generated voice clones that have been used to spread misinformation.

A deepake video was circulating claiming to show former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath promising land for a mosque and the reinstatement of Article 370. BOOM debunked the claim and found that the audio overlay is artificially generated and not Nath's voice. The original video, from November 2018, shows Nath addressing minority voters, urging them to support Congress.

Another example is a deepfake video of Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi had gone viral on social media. Using deepfake detection tools we were able to establish that the video was digitally manipulated.

The video circulating online purportedly showing Mukesh Ambani promoting a stock market forum is a deepfake. The original video is from Ambani's speech at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024, but it has been manipulated using artificial voice cloning technology. BOOM debunked the video, pointing out discrepancies in the voiceover and lip-sync, and highlighted Ambani's actual speech, which focused on his company's plans and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
