Yogi Adityanath

Yogi Adityanath is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), currently serving as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state. He took office in March 2017 and was re-elected in 2022. Known for his strong Hindu nationalist views, Adityanath has been a significant figure in Indian politics, often advocating for the interests of the majority Hindu population.

Before becoming Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath was a five-time Member of Parliament (MP) from the Gorakhpur constituency, representing Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha. He is also the Mahant (head priest) of the Gorakhnath Math, a prominent temple in Gorakhpur, and has played a crucial role in shaping the political landscape of the region through his religious and political influence.

As Chief Minister, Adityanath has focused on law and order, infrastructure development, and implementing various welfare schemes in Uttar Pradesh. However, his administration has faced criticism over issues like communal tensions and handling of protests, such as the 2020 Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests.

In June 2017, BOOM fact-checked a claim regarding Yogi Adityanath's comment on the Taj Mahal.
