Mysuru

Mysuru, once the capital of the Kingdom of Mysore, has a history that stretches over a millennium. It is widely known for its heritage structures and palaces including the Mysore Palace and hosts the Mysore Dasara festival, attracting a significant number of tourists every year. This city is also home to the Chamundi Hills, named after the deity Chamundeshwari, whose temple sits atop the main hill. The region played a crucial role in the history of Southern India through its strategic location and as the seat of the Wodeyar dynasty.

In December 2023, BOOM came across a misleading claim, that a photo of D Manoranjan, one of the intruders in the Lok Sabha was seen at a conference by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI). We found that the man in the viral photo was TS Vijay Kumar, SFI's district president from Mysuru and not D Manoranjan, the co-accused in the parliament breach case. We also found a post by SFI Karnataka dismissing the viral claim.

Another false claim related to Mysuru was debunked by BOOM in March 2022. It showed a photo claiming that an Indian student who returned from Ukraine said that she was dropped in Mumbai by the Indian embassy and had to take a cab home for Rs 234. We found that the quote attributed to the young student in the viral graphic was fake and the photo had been taken from a video she recorded seeking help to be evacuated along with other students stranded in Ukraine after the Russian invasion.
