AI-Generated Video Falsely Shared As Escalator Collapse In Mysuru Mall

An AI-generated video showing multiple escalators collapsing inside a mall and causing massive damage is being shared online with a false claim that the the visuals show an accident at a mall in Mysuru, Karnataka.

BOOM found that the video is not real and was created by a Sweden-based YouTube creator using AI (artificial intelligence).

The Claim

A verified user on X posted the video with the caption, "Escalators collapsed and many dead at BM Habitat Mall, Mysore".

What We Found: The Video Is Artificially Generated

1. Video Made By AI Artist: We first observed the video closely and noticed several discrepancies such as two people merging while walking, which are commonly seen in AI-generated visuals. Taking a cue, we ran a related keyword search and found the same video posted by a verified Sweden-based YouTube channel Disaster Strucks on June 10, 2025.

The channel clearly mentioned that the video is synthetic content and uploaded it with the caption, 'This is AI art, generated by me.' The creator also stated in the channel’s bio that the videos shared there are artificially created disaster visuals.

2. AI Detection Tool Result: To confirm further, we tested the video using the AI detection tool Hive Moderation. The tool analysed it and concluded that the video is most likely AI-generated or deepfake content, giving it a 99.9 percent aggregate score.
