China

China, officially known as the People's Republic of China (PRC), is the world’s most populous country and the third-largest in terms of land area. Situated in East Asia, it shares borders with 14 countries, including India, Russia, Vietnam, and Nepal. The country’s capital is Beijing, while Shanghai is its largest city and a major global financial hub. China operates as a socialist republic, with the Communist Party of China (CPC) as its sole governing political party.

Historically, China has a rich cultural and political heritage that spans thousands of years, marked by the rise and fall of various dynasties, imperial rule, and significant contributions to philosophy, science, and arts. The country transitioned into a communist state in 1949 under the leadership of Mao Zedong, following the Chinese Civil War. Since the late 20th century, China has emerged as a global economic power, driven by market-oriented reforms initiated by Deng Xiaoping in the 1980s. It has since become a leader in manufacturing, technology, renewable energy, and infrastructure development.

China plays a key role in global politics, economics, and international organizations. It is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and has been actively involved in initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which aims to expand infrastructure and trade networks across Asia, Europe, and Africa. The country is also known for its assertive foreign policy, particularly in the South China Sea, Taiwan, and its border disputes with India, including the ongoing India-China Conflict along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The nation has been a source of significant global debate, especially regarding issues like human rights, cybersecurity, trade disputes, and misinformation. Fact-checking organizations have frequently had to verify claims related to China, especially concerning its foreign policy, domestic governance, and international relations.

In June 2020, Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP IT Cell, shared a viral photo claiming it depicted the Gandhi family’s visit to China in 2008.
