Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh is a state located in central India, known for its rich cultural heritage, diverse tribal population, and significant mineral resources. Formed on November 1, 2000, by carving out 16 southeastern districts from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh is one of India’s younger states. The state capital is Raipur, which is also its largest city and the hub of its economic activities.

Chhattisgarh is endowed with abundant natural resources, including coal, iron ore, bauxite, and limestone, making it a significant contributor to India’s mineral output. The state is also one of the largest producers of steel and electricity in the country. Agriculture is another key sector, with rice being the principal crop, leading to Chhattisgarh being known as the "Rice Bowl of India."

The state has a vibrant tribal culture, with a large percentage of its population belonging to various indigenous communities. This cultural diversity is reflected in the state’s festivals, music, dance, and crafts, such as the famous Bastar Dussehra and the traditional handicrafts of the region.

Chhattisgarh has also faced challenges, including issues related to poverty, education, and healthcare, particularly in its rural and tribal areas. Additionally, the state has been affected by Naxalite-Maoist insurgency, which has led to security concerns and impacted development in certain regions.

In April 2017, BOOM investigated a viral video that was being falsely circulated on social media as footage of a recent Naxal attack in Sukma, Chhattisgarh.

BOOM found that the video was actually from a 2009 attack on a police party in Madanwada, Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh, where 30 personnel were killed. The video was misleadingly shared as a current event.
