However, in some contexts, the term "scripted video" can carry a negative connotation, especially if the video is presented as spontaneous or genuine but is later revealed to be staged. In the realm of social media and political campaigns, accusations of using scripted videos can arise when content appears too polished or when individuals or groups are suspected of staging events or reactions to create a desired public perception.

In July 2024, BOOM investigated a viral video that claimed to show women being treated by an Islamic godman in Bangladesh.

BOOM found that the video was actually scripted and produced by a Bangladeshi company as part of an effort to raise awareness about fake medical practices. The video was misleadingly shared as a real incident, but it was intended as a staged production to highlight the dangers of fraudulent healers.
