Rohit Sharma, born on April 30, 1987, in Nagpur, is an Indian cricketer and currently captains the national team. He bats right-handed and occasionally bowls right-arm off break. Sharma made his test debut for India against the West Indies in November 2013 and has since played in numerous matches, including the 2015, 2019 and 2023 World Cups. In the Indian Premier League, Sharma has been associated with Mumbai Indians since 2011. In November 2023, BOOM came across a false claim made by Mirror Now that “Rohit Sharma’s daughter says he is in his room and will start laughing once again in a month’s time after ICC ODI World Cup 2023”.

We found that the viral video was old, dating back to 2022 and is not a recent video of Sharma’s daughter’s reaction about her father after India lost the final ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The original video was posted on X, in June 2022. The conversation in that video matches the context of Sharma testing positive for COVID-19, with his daughter saying he will laugh again in a month when being asked about him.

In the same month last year, BOOM found another altered video of Rohit Sharma being widely shared.

The claim was that Travis Head dropped the catch that dismissed Rohit Sharma in the World Cup Finals. But we found that the image was being edited and the original clip from the match shows Travis Head catching the ball well before it hits the ground.
