A viral clip of NDTV anchor Ravish Kumar's take on the economic slowdown in 2013 vs 2019 is misleading. BOOM found that the clip from 2013 has cherry picked a quote which makes it appear that Kumar was not aggressive in questioning the UPA government of the day for the slowdown. A longer clip shows that this is not true. Read the full story here.

A document claiming to show the Swiss bank holdings of several opposition Indian politicians and stock market traders is fake. The most damaging proof is that it uses a letterhead of Swiss Bank Corporation that ceased to exist since 1998 after its merger with Union Bank of Switzerland to form UBS. Read more details here

A selfie video showing young men armed with weapons and bullet proof vests assembled in what appears to be a campus, has gone viral on Twitter in India with claims that militants are being trained for Kashmir. BOOM was able to trace the video to the Police Training College Hangu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, using open source data. Read how we traced the video to the man who shot it, here

On August 30, a controversy broke out after a political body Muslim Students Front (MSF) was accused of waving the Pakistan flag in a college in Kerala. The Perambra police have booked nearly 30 students for the same and news channels reported that it was the Pakistan flag, leaving MSF in a soup. The organisation, at first blamed the tailor who made the flag for “making a mistake” and then on Monday claimed that the “photos were manipulated”. BOOM analysed the videos and photos and found that the flag is not the Pakistan flag but neither is it the official MSF flag or the flag of the Indian Union Muslim League. A video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is being shared with the false claim that Modi along with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met him to end the country’s ‘financial crisis’. The video is viral in the backdrop of Singh’s sharp criticism blaming the Modi government squarely for an economic slowdown. However, BOOM found that the original video is from May 2014. A photo of an elephant pushing a bus is being shared with the false claim that it saved lives of people by stopping the bus falling in a ditch in Uttarakhand. But BOOM found that the image is not from India but Bangladesh. Read more details about the photo here
