Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken tweeted on Thursday a trimmed video clip purporting to show Bharatiya Janta Party President (BJP) Amit Shah saying don't vote for Meenakshi Lekhi, BJP's New Delhi candidate.

The two-time Member of Parliament tweeted the 18 second clip culled from Shah's rally at Delhi's Vasant Kunj on May 1, 2019.

Maken tweeted the clip saying, "Its very strange-BJP President Sh Amit Shah himself says that do not vote for Meenakshi Lekhi! Then why should anyone vote for Lekhi ji?"

The Congress leader wrote that he received the video from one @Kundra_Vishal.,a former member of Congress's Delhi IT cell and current social media in-charge of the party in Uttar Pradesh east, according to his bio on Twitter.

Its very strange-BJP President Sh Amit Shah himself says that do not vote for Meenakshi Lekhi!

Then why should anyone vote for Lekhi ji?

In the trimmed clip, Amit Shah appears to say, "But our two parliamentary candidates, sister Lekhi and Ramesh Bidhuri, for this one thing don't give these two votes. I'm saying this now. Being the BJP president, I'm saying don't vote for my two candidates for this one thing."

      FACT CHECK

BOOM tracked down Amit Shah's full speech on the BJP's official YouTube channel.

Shah's speech in Delhi on May 1, 2019 was mainly about the Narendra Modi-led government's stance on national security.

In the longer version of the video Shah says the following.

"Mitron, Narendra Modi government did several things. For the poor, it (the government) did a lot of things. It gave them a house, electricity, toilets, gas connection, pure drinking water. Even for Delhi a lot of things. But our two parliamentary candidates, sister Lekhi and Ramesh Bidhuri, for this one thing don't give these two votes. I'm saying this now. Being the BJP president, I'm saying don't vote for my two candidates for this one thing. For Delhi, Modi ji spent one lakh crore but don't vote even for that. But definitely vote for them (because) Modi ji has made the country secure. That's why vote for them."
