Times Now is one of India’s leading English-language news channels, launched in 2006 by The Times Group, which is known for its legacy in Indian media, publishing newspapers like The Times of India and The Economic Times. With its headquarters in Mumbai, Times Now has made a name for itself with a style characterized by aggressive reporting, debate-driven programming, and breaking news coverage. The channel covers a wide array of topics, including politics, economy, entertainment, sports, and global events, often leading the pack among English news channels in terms of viewership.

Times Now became especially popular in the 2010s with its prime-time show, "The Newshour," which featured heated debates on various political and social issues. These debates often featured government officials, opposition leaders, activists, and other high-profile figures. The channel’s programming has focused on topics that resonate with urban viewers, such as national security, terrorism, government policies, and social issues. In February 2018, Times Now aired a video claiming that Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince had said "Jai Siya Ram" during a public address. The report quickly gained traction as a sign of diplomatic goodwill towards India.

BOOM found that this interpretation was incorrect. The audio was either misheard or deliberately misrepresented by Indian media outlets, including Times Now, leading to inaccurate reporting on an international issue.
