OM Birla

Om Birla is a veteran politician and the 17th speaker of Lok Sabha. He stood for an election as a BJP’s candidate in 2019 against Congress candidate Mallikarjun Kharge and won the election. He was again re-elected in June 2024 as a speaker in which his opponent was K Suresh, Congress.

Birla was born in Kota, Rajasthan on November 23, 1962. He holds a degree of Bachelor of Arts from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer. Biral was active in politics from an early age and was president of the student union at Government Senior Secondary School, Gumanpura, in 1979.

Birla held several positions in his career. He was the district president of the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Kota, for four years (1987-91). He was then elected as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in Rajasthan for six years (1991-1997). He was also MLA for Kota South for eleven years (2003-2014) and is currently a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Kota constituency since 2014.

In July 2024, BOOM had debunked misinformation around Birla's daughter. A social media had gone viral claiming that Anjali Birla, daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, had passed UPSC without appearing for the exam.

BOOM found that the claim was false, and Anjali Birla had successfully cleared both the preliminary and main examinations of the UPSC.
