Malaysia

Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country located partly on a peninsula of the Asian mainland and partly on the northern third of the island of Borneo. It is a federal constitutional monarchy consisting of 13 states and three federal territories, with Kuala Lumpur as its capital and Putrajaya as the seat of the federal government. Malaysia is known for its diverse culture, rich history, and significant economic growth.

The country is divided into two regions: Peninsular Malaysia, which shares a border with Thailand to the north, and East Malaysia, located on the island of Borneo, sharing borders with Indonesia and Brunei. The South China Sea separates these two regions.

Malaysia is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country, with the major ethnic groups being Malays, Chinese, and Indians. Islam is the official religion, but other religions are widely practiced. The country has a rich cultural heritage, reflected in its festivals, architecture, and cuisine, which is a blend of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences.

Economically, Malaysia is one of the most developed countries in Southeast Asia, with a robust economy driven by manufacturing, services, and agriculture. It is one of the world's largest producers of palm oil, rubber, and tin. Malaysia is also known for its oil and gas resources, as well as its thriving tourism industry.

Malaysia's political system is a federal parliamentary democracy, with a constitutional monarchy. The King, known as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, is elected from among the rulers of the Malay states and serves a five-year term. The Prime Minister is the head of government.

The country is known for its modern cities, such as Kuala Lumpur, home to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, as well as its beautiful natural landscapes, including rainforests, beaches, and islands. Malaysia's biodiversity is among the richest in the world, with numerous national parks and protected areas.

In January 2024, BOOM investigated a viral video that was falsely claimed to show a railway project in India.

BOOM found that the video actually depicted a track laying machine in Malaysia, part of the East Coast Rail Link project, a joint Malaysia-China initiative linking the east coast of Malaysia. The video was misleadingly shared as evidence of a rail project in India.
