Janata Dal (United)

The Janata Dal (United), commonly known as JD(U), is a prominent political party in India, primarily active in the state of Bihar. Founded in 1999, the JD(U) has a strong base in Bihar and is led by Nitish Kumar, who has served multiple terms as the Chief Minister of the state. The party focuses on issues such as social justice, economic development, and good governance, often advocating for policies that benefit rural and marginalized communities. Over the years, JD(U) has formed alliances with various national parties, including the BJP and the INDIA alliance, reflecting its pragmatic approach to coalition politics.

In June 2024, BOOM fact-checked a viral video that purportedly showed Nitish Kumar meeting with INDIA alliance leaders.

BOOM’s investigation revealed that the video was actually from April 2023, when Kumar’s JD(U) was part of the INDIA bloc.
