Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal an Indian politician known for his role as the Chief Minister of Delhi. Born on August 16, 1968, in Siwani, Haryana, Kejriwal is a former civil servant. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur as a mechanical engineer and later joined the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). Kejriwal gained national attention for his involvement in the RTI (Right to Information) movement and his collaboration with Anna Hazare in the India Against Corruption campaign. In 2012, he founded the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which focused on issues of corruption, governance, and public welfare. Under his leadership, AAP secured a historic victory in the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, winning 67 out of 70 seats.

BOOM has debunked several pieces of misinformation around Kejriwal. A fake newspaper clipping had gone viral claiming that Kejriwal was accused of rape in 1987. BOOM found that the claim was false and in affidavits submitted to the Election Commission of India, showed no record of such allegations.

BOOM attempted to recreate the newspaper clipping using an online generator, discovering that the generator produced identical third columns for all news clips, indicating it was fake.

An edited video had gone viral claiming that Kejriwal said that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, that would lead to Pakistan's destruction. However, BOOM found that the claim was and in the original video from January 2019, Kejriwal was warning that a return to power by Modi and Shah would endanger India, not Pakistan.
