Amarinder Singh, born on March 11, 1942, in Patiala, Punjab, is an Indian politician, former military officer, and the former Chief Minister of Punjab. Singh has had a long and influential career in Indian politics, serving as Punjab's Chief Minister for two terms, from 2002 to 2007 and from 2017 to 2021. A member of the royal family of Patiala, Singh initially served in the Indian Army during the 1965 Indo-Pak War before entering politics in the 1980s. He began his political career with the Indian National Congress (INC) and later founded his own party, the Punjab Lok Congress, in 2021.

Singh is known for his strong stance on national security, agriculture reforms, and Punjab’s economic development. During his tenure as Chief Minister, he focused on issues like farm debt waivers, infrastructure development, and drug eradication in Punjab. He has been vocal about his support for farmers' rights, cross-border security concerns, and Punjab's water-sharing disputes with neighboring states.

In 2021, Singh resigned from the Chief Minister’s post, citing differences with the Congress leadership. Following his exit from the INC, he formed the Punjab Lok Congress and later allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2022 Punjab state elections, marking a significant shift in his political journey.
