COVID-19 Cases In India Cross 50,000 Mark

Since the last update, India added 3,561 new cases taking the tally to 52,952 cases. 89 patients have succumbed to the illness taking the death toll to 1,783. 

Mumbai Becomes First Indian City With More Than 10,000 Cases

In its daily COVID-19 bulletin, Maharashtra reported 1233 new cases and 34 new deaths as the state's number of cases increased to 16758 and deaths increased to 651. 

Maharashtra has conducted over 1,90,000 tests and over 3000 people have recovered in the state. 

Mumbai, the state's capital became the first city to report over 10 thousand cases with over 481 deaths. 

Non-Essential Shops To Be Shut For Eight Days In Ahmedabad

All shops except for those selling milk and medicines will be shut from 12 am May 7 to 6 am May 15 announced the Municipal Corporation. 

Positive Cases Rise To 1,047 In West Bengal

West Bengal has reported 112 new cases taking the state's tally to 1,047. Four patients succumbed to the illness taking the death toll in the state to 72. The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that West Bengal has seen low testing rates and has the highest mortality rate due to COVID-19 in the country at 13.2 per cent.

548 Medical Staff In India Infected By Coronavirus

The PTI reports that coronavirus has infected around 548 doctors, nurses and paramedics across India. However, the figure does not include field workers, ward boys, sanitation workers, security guards, lab attendants, peons, laundry and kitchen staff among others.

Over One Lakh Migrants Ferried By Shramik Special Trains

The Indian Railways have announced that it has run 115 Shramik Special trains since May 1 and has ferried over one lakh migrants across India. According to PTI, as of Tuesday morning, 35 trains have originated from Gujarat while 13 trains have been run from Kerala. Bihar has received 13 trains, with 11 more currently on their way and six more planned.

Uttar Pradesh has received 10 with five more are on their way and 12 more planned. PTI also reports that the West Bengal government has given clearance to only two trains -- one each from Rajasthan and Kerala. Jharkhand has received four trains, while five are on their way to the state. Two more Shramik Special trains have been planned. Odisha has received seven trains and five are on their way to the state, with one more planned.

Karnataka Government Announces Relief Package

The Karnataka Government has announced a relief package for workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Rs. 5,000 will be paid to washermen, barbers, auto and taxi drivers while construction workers will get an additional Rs 3,000 as compensation. Handloom workers will receive Rs. 2,000 while floriculturists will receive Rs. 25,000 per hectare.

206 New Cases Reported In New Delhi, 35 Cases Reported In Rajasthan

New Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain provided an update on COVID-19 cases in the capital. The state's count stands at 5,104 after 206 new cases were reported. The doubling rate in Delhi is 11 days.

In Rajasthan, 35 new positive cases of COVID have been reported with one death. The total number of cases has risen to 3,193 with a death toll of 90.

Odisha recorded its second COVID-19 death and also reported one new positive case. The total number of active cases is 115.

Aarogya Setu App Team Issues Statement On Data Security Of App

A day after a French ethical hacker raised doubts over the data security of the Aarogya Setu App, the developers of the app have released a statement stating that no personal information of users is at risk.

India's Case Count Nears 50,000

The total number of cases in India reached 49,391 cases with 1,694 deaths. Since the last update, India has added 2,680 new cases while 105 victims died. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with 15525 confirmed cases and 617 deaths.
