        COVID-19 Cases In Mumbai Will Decline In 15-20 Days: Maharashtra Health Minister

        Speaking to PTI, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has said that COVID-19 cases in Mumbai will decline in 15-20 days. The state government will rope in workforce from other departments if the BMC falls short of manpower, Tope said. Of the 17,974 COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, 11,394 were reported from Mumbai alone and the city had recorded 437 deaths from the toll of 694 in the state.

        Hot, Humid Climate May Not Halt COVID-19 Spread Claims Study

        A study by the Canadian Medical Association has postulated that hot and humid climates may not halt the spread of the novel coronavirus. The study also pointed out that school closures and other public health measures are having a positive effect in containing COVID-19, according to a PTI report.

        85% Daily Wage Workers Hit By Lockdown In Ahmedabad

        According to a survey done by the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, at least 85 per cent of daily wage workers have lost their regular income in Ahmedabad due to lockdown. The IIM-A conducted the survey among 500 households in the city that earned less than 19,500 per month, according to a PTI report. The survey found that about 54 per cent of the 500 families said they had to cut down from three meals to two meals a day, while 60 per cent revealed that they did not have enough food rations to survive the lockdown.

        Migrant Workers Run Over By Train In Aurangabad

        At least 15 migrant workers were run over by a goods train in Aurangabad in the wee hours of Friday. According to a report in Scroll, the workers, who were on their way to Madhya Pradesh, had fallen asleep on the tracks. The Ministry of Railways said that the pilot of the train tried to stop it but couldn't. The injured have been taken to Aurangabad Civil Hospital.

        India Reports 56,342 Cases; 1,886 Deaths

        Since the last update, India added 3,390 cases to take the total case count to 56,342. The country also reported 103 deaths to take the death toll to 1,886. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with 17974 cases and 694 deaths followed by Gujarat with 7,012 cases and 425 deaths.

        CISF, BSF Record COVID-19 Casualties

        A 55-year-old CISF head constable has died due to the coronavirus. PTI reported that the head constable, who worked at the Mumbai airport, was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday and died on Thursday. The CISF has reported 32 active cases so far. Two Border Security Forces also died due to COVID-19. The BSF has reported 193 cases so far.

        Karnataka To Restart Train Services For Migrant Workers

        The Karnataka government has decided to restart train services for migrant workers after facing flak for discontinuing the services according to The Quint. The B.S. Yediyurappa government had decided to cancel services after meeting with property developers and deciding that migrant workers will be crucial in restarting the economy once the lockdown is lifted. The government has sent letters of request on Thursday to several states asking their consent to operate trains for migrant workers.

        Vizag Gas Leak Affects Nine Shramik Special Trains

        The movement of nine Shramik Special trains and 24 goods trains have been affected due to gas leak in Vishakhapatnam. According to PTI, the trains affected are Abu Road-Visakhpatnam, Darbhanga-Thrissur, Hatia -Eranakulam, Saharsa-Chintakunta and Palakkad-Jagannathpur special trains. The trains running on the Ghatkesar-Katihar, Katpadi-Hatia, Lingampalli-Bhagalpur and Kozhikode-Katihar routes have been diverted via Vijayawada Railway station and Balharshah Railway Station.

        India Begins First Phase Of Mass Evacuations

        India has begun the first phase of its plan to evacuate Indians from foreign countries. According to a report by Moneycontrol, 10 flights will be operated today from UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, UK, Malaysia, USA, Philippines and Bangladesh. The INS Jalashwa reached the port of Male to evacuate Indians from the Maldives. The first flight to Abu Dhabi will take off from Kochi today.

        8 Cities Key In Fighting COVID-19: NITI Aayog Chief

        Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog has said that eight cities in India hold the key in India's fight against COVID-19. According to Kant, testing, contact tracing and community surveillance will be vital in containing the disease in Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Chennai, Indore, Thane and Jaipur.
