        Cases in India cross the 8 lakh mark

        COVID-19 cases crossed the 8 lakh mark, according to latest data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In one day, India reported its highest spike of 27,114 cases to currently be at 8,20,916 cases. India also reported 519 deaths, to bring the total casualties in the country to 22,123. 5,15,386 people have recovered, show the data.

        Maharashtra Reports Record One-day Spike In COVID-19 Cases

        Maharashtra has reported a record one-day spike of 7,862 new COVID-19 cases taking the state's total case count to 2,38,461. The number of active cases is 95,647 while 1,32,625 patients have been cured or discharged. The state reported 226 deaths today taking the toll to 9,893. The case fatality rate is 4.15% while the recovery rate is 55.62%. While Mumbai has reported the most number of cases with 90,461, Thane has the highest number of active cases in the state with 30,977 compared to Mumbai's 23,035.

        10-day Lockdown Implemented In Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad; Lockdown Extended In Thane

        A 10-day lockdown will be implemented in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and a few other parts of the district from July 13 till July 23 due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, reports PTI. Only medical shops, clinics and milk shops will be allowed to operate during the lockdown. The move comes after Pune district reported a record spike of 1,803 new cases taking the total case count to 34,399.

        The lockdown which had been implemented till July 12 in Thane city has been extended till July 19. A curfew has also been implemented in Nanded from July 12 to July 20 to check the rise of COVID-19 cases.

        Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa To Self Isolate After Staff Tests Positive For COVID-19

        Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that he will be working from home after some of his staff tested positive for COVID-19, reports PTI. "I am going to discharge my duties from home from today for the next few days in view of some of the staff in the office-cum-residence Krishna testing positive for coronavirus," Yediyurappa said in a statement.

        India Reports Highest One-day Spike In COVID-19 Cases

        According to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India added a record 26,506 new COVID-19 cases to take the total case count to 7,93,802. The number of active cases stands at 2,76,685 while 4,95,512 patients have been cured or discharged so far. 475 patients succumbed to COVID-19 as the death toll rose to 21,604.

        Lockdown Implemented In Uttar Pradesh For Three Days

        Uttar Pradesh will be under complete lockdown from 10 pm Friday till 5 am July 13 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government announced today. According to the order issued by Chief Secretary Rajendra Tiwari, all commercial establishments, shops and workplaces will be shut. Essential services and medical facilities will not be affected by the lockdown. All scheduled trains and flights will be allowed to operate.

        No Community Transmission In India: Union Health Minister

        Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Thursday said that there is no community transmission of the novel coronavirus in India according to multiple reports. Speaking after chairing a Group of Ministers' meeting to evaluate the COVID-19 pandemic in India, Dr Vardhan said, "During our discussions today, experts again stated that there is no community transmission in India. There may be some localised pockets where transmission is high but as a country, there’s no community transmission."

        Odisha Records Highest One-Day Spike In COVID-19 Cases

        Odisha reported 577 new COVID-19 cases, a record rise, to take the total case count to 11,201. The death toll rose by four to stand at 52 deaths. Of the total case count, 4,128 are active cases while 7,006 have recovered. Ganjam, with 3,096 cases and 30 deaths, is the worst-hit district in the state.

        India Records Highest One-day Spike In New COVID-19 Cases

        According to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India reported 24,879 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, a record one-day rise in cases, to take the total case count to 7,67,296. The number of active cases stands at 2,69,789 while 4,76,377 patients have been cured or discharged so far. 487 patients died due to the disease as the death toll rose to 21,129.

        Trump Administration Moves To Withdraw US From WHO

        The Donald Trump administration has formally begun to withdraw the United States of America from the World Health Organisation according to multiple reports. The Senator for New Jersey Robert Menendez also tweeted that the US Congress received a notification from the Trump administration that it was formally moving to remove the US from WHO. Former Vice President and Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden said in a tweet that he would ensure the US rejoins the WHO should he become the president.
