        Union Home Minister Amit Shah Admitted To AIIMS Delhi

        Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been admitted to AIIMS Delhi after complaining of fatigue and body aches, according to a medical bulletin issued by the hospital. Shah had been admitted to a private hospital in Gurugram on August 2 after testing positive for COVID-19. He had recovered from the disease on August 14 and had been in home quarantine as a precaution.

        India Reports 55,079 New COVID-19 Cases

        India has reported 55,079 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total case count to 27,02,472. The active caseload stands at 6,73,166 while 19,77,779 patients have been cured or discharged so far. 876 patients succumbed to the disease as the death toll rises to 51,797.

        Delhi Hospitals Report Reemergence Of COVID-19 In Recovered Patients

        Some hospitals in Delhi have reported a reemergence of COVID-19 in recovered patients, reports PTI. Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, Dwarka's Aakash Healthcare and a civic-run dedicated COVID-19 hospital have seen patients contracting the disease after recovering from it the first time around. A cancer patient at Aakash Healthcare died after being diagnosed the second time.

        Ayurvedic, Homeopathic Doctors Move SC Asking Postponement Of AIAPGET

        Ayurvedic and homeopathic doctors have filed an appeal in the Supreme Court asking for postponement of the All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET) to be held on August 29 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, reports PTI. The petitioners state in their plea that after appearing for the entrance exam, they will have to be in quarantine for two weeks as per local rules. That will lead to a scarcity of medical professionals as many of the exam givers are also working as doctors in COVID-19 hospitals to combat the pandemic.

        Phillippines' Minister Tests Positive For Coronavirus For Second Time

        Eduardo Ano, Interior Secretary in the Phillippines government has again tested positive for COVID-19 five months after his first diagnosis, reported AFP. The country's health undersecretary stated that his Ano's symptoms were being monitored and it would not be correct to call it a re-infection. 

        Some studies have shown that patients who have recovered from COVID-19 start losing their immunity after a few months or weeks.

        Sharad Pawar Tests Negative, Four Staff At Residence Test Positive

        Four staff members at NCP Chief Sharad Pawar's Mumbai residence tested positive for COVID-19 while Pawar tested negative, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Monday. 

        Pawar was taken to Breach Candy Hospital where his tests results came negative. The NCP chief has been asked to not venture out for any more tour. He had just returned from Satara where he met state cooperation minister Balasaheb Patil. Patil tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.

        Beijing Approves Patent For CanSino Vaccine

        China's adenoviral vaccine candidate by CanSino Biologics becomes the first COVID-19 vaccine to win a patent approval from Beijing, reported state-owned newspaper People's Daily on Sunday. It cited documents from the country's National Intellectual Property Administration saying that the patent was issued on Aug. 11

        Saudi Arabia has stated that it will start Phase III trials for the vaccine while CanSino is also in talks with Russia,Brazil and Chile to launch Phase III trials of the vaccine candidate.

        NEET/ JEE Exams To Not Be Postponed: Supreme Court

        JEE mains and NEET exams will not be postponed ruled the Supreme Court on Monday. Hearing a petition filed by parents of students appearing for these exams. Justice Arun Mishra dismissed the plea stating that the career of students cannot be put under jeopardy for longer. The exams were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. 

        Solicitor General Tushar Mehta representing the National Testing Agency told the apex court that all safety precautions will be followed while conducting the exams. 

        NEET is the eligibility and entrance test for undergraduate medical courses while JEE is the entrance exam for engineering colleges.

        India's COVID-19 Death Toll Crossed 50,000

        India's COVID-19 death toll has passed the 50,000 mark after 941 people died due to the disease taking the toll to 50,921. The total case count has risen to 26,47,663 after 57,981 people tested positive for the disease. The active caseload stands at 6,76,900 while 19,19,842 people have been cured or discharged so far.
