25 March 2020 4:58 PM ISTUnion Minister of Enivronment, Forests and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar while addressing the media on March 25, 2020 stated that through the public distribution system, 80 crore Indians will get rice and wheat at cheaper costs for the next 3 months. Wheat will be priced at Rs 2 and rice at Rs. 3 from the current Rs. 27 and Rs. 37 respectively. Districts will be provided enough stock for the same.
He further stated that contractual labourers will receive minimum wages during the lockdown period.
When asked about the wages for the large informal sector, he stated that the Centre has asked the States to take this decision.
He also stated that for the deferment of EMI, other packages by the Centre are in the pipeline.
He also discussed the issue of online deliveries wherein they should not be stopped and that rumours of newspapers spreading coronavirus need to be put to rest.
