States Can Implement The Essential Commodities Act

The Home Secretary has written to the Cabinet Secretarys permitting them to implement the Essential Commodities Act which will allow them to fix stock limits of prices as well as capping of prices to stop the black-marketing and hoarding of essentials goods and services. 

Under the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana, the Home Ministry has asked the states to allocate over 3,100 crore rupees to help construction workers. Over 29 lakh workers have benefitted through the food that the State governments are provided. 

India Has Reported 32 Deaths And 773 Cases

In the last 24 hours, India has reported 773 new cases and 32 deaths. 

The Ministry was asked about the increasing deaths in Maharashtra and the reasons for the same. The Ministry stated that with the number of deaths in India it would be difficult to say if any state had a significantly higher death rate as the sample is very small. The reasons could be due to chance and pre-existing morbidities. 

Three New Cases In Dharavi, Mumbai

Dharavi in Mumbai has reported three new cases increasing the number of cases from the area to 10. 

A 50-year-old female cleaning staff from KEM hospital tested positive for the virus along with two other males who are 25 and 35  years of age. 

First case reported in Tripura, shows MOHFW data

India reports 5194 cases, 149 deaths

Latest data from the Ministry of Health of Family Welfare shows India reporting 5194 cases, up 410 cases since April 7. India also reported a total death toll of 149 deaths.

Maharashtra, Gujarat Report New Deaths

Gujarat reported two more deaths taking the state's total to 15 deaths. Maharashtra reported an additional 12 deaths taking the state's death toll to 60. 

18 States and UTs have reported deaths from the 31 with cases. 

Maharashtra Becomes First State To Cross 1000 Cases

Maharashtra's Health Ministry reported 1018 cases and 60 deaths in the state. Mumbai with over 642 cases and 40 deaths leads the roster in the state as well as the country. Pune follows with 130 cases. 

Around 40 Crore People Will Be Pushed To Poverty: ILO

The COVID-19 crisis has the potential to push around 40 crore informal sector workers in India deeper into poverty, with the lockdown and other containment measures affecting jobs and earnings, an International Labour Organisation (ILO) report said on Tuesday.

India Reports 378 New Cases, 10 Deaths

Since its last update, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has reported 378 new cases and 10 deaths taking the country's total to 4789 cases and 124 deaths. 

Odisha reported its first death while Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan reported new deaths.
