Video Of Intoxicated Youth From Rajasthan Falsely Shared As Punjab

A video purportedly showing two men in an inebriated state was shared on social media by former cricketer and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh, falsely claiming it was from Punjab and criticising the Aam Aadmi Party government for the drug abuse crisis in Punjab.

BOOM found that the video is from Sriganganagar in Rajasthan and is unrelated to Punjab. Additionally, the Punjab Police also denied the claim.

      The Claim:
The 29-second video of two intoxicated men dancing near a petrol pump was shared by Singh on his official X account, claiming it was from Punjab and condemning the Punjab government for its failure in handling the drug issue in the state.

      Archive available here.

The video was also shared by other users who called the men in the clip victims of 'zombie drug addiction.'

      What We Found:
      1) Video traced to Sriganganagar, Rajasthan
A reverse image search led BOOM to an Instagram post dated August 9 from the handle @Fahte_singh, which carried a watermark showing the date as August 7, 2026, and the location as Sriganganagar. BOOM also found a similar video posted by the same account on August 7.

      2) Sriganganagar police confirm the men were detained
News reports citing a police statement confirmed that the video was filmed near the Indian Oil petrol pump on Jassa Singh Marg in Sriganganagar. Sriganganagar Superintendent of Police Harishankar said the person who filmed the video was questioned, and the two men in the clip, identified as Yogesh (30) and Joginder (27), were detained. He clarified that the duo had consumed banned pregabalin capsules, not the "zombie drug," and that they told police they had taken only one capsule each and were pretending to be intoxicated near the petrol pump.

      3) Denial from Punjab Police
The Punjab Police have refuted the viral claim, stating that the video was from Sriganganagar, Rajasthan, and not related to the Punjab police.

The video being circulated is from Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan—not Punjab—and has no connection with Punjab Police.

A Punjabi audio track does not make an incident a Punjab incident.
