A video purportedly showing Indian Chief of Army Staff Dhiraj Seth and Supreet Sapra, wife of an Army Major, dancing together at an event is being falsely circulated on social media as an authentic report from American news media outlet CNN.
BOOM found the original video that was used to create the deepfake, and Meta's Verification tool found a signature indicating it was created using Meta AI.
The Claim:
The 23-second video is being shared on social media falsely claiming that Seth was 'spotted' with Sapra, dancing at an event.
What We Found:
The video has a watermark, 'Baba Thoka', an X account BOOM has previously fact-checked for spreading misinformation and AI-generated deepfake videos targeting Indian Army officials.
1) Original video that was used to create the Deepfake
A reverse image search traced the original video posted by Instagram handle @rhythiculous on March 11, 2026. Seth and Sapra's faces were superimposed onto this video. The identical setting and body movements of the people in both videos indicate that the viral clip is an edited version of the original.
2) Meta signature detected
We spotted some visual inconsistencies in the video, like unnatural hand movements and facial distortions, which are common characteristics of deepfakes. We also ran the video through Meta's verification tool, which detected embedded signatures that indicate the video was generated using Meta AI.
2) No CNN news reports involving COA Seth and Sapra
We reviewed CNN’s news coverage and could not find any reports regarding COA Seth and Sapra. There were no other credible news reports covering the event either.
