A 2024 video of Home Minister Amit Shah purportedly saying that India would take the help of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)-based Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) to reclaim PoK is a Deepfake.
BOOM found that the reference to JAAC in Shah's address has been inserted using an AI-generated audio
At least 11 people were killed and dozens injured, including police officers and civilians, after police clashed with supporters of the JAAC, a group recently banned in Pakistan, on June 7. The violence erupted ahead of a planned protest over political rights and legislative representation, following a Supreme Court ruling that 12 legislative seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees living in Pakistan are constitutionally protected and cannot be abolished without a constitutional amendment.
The Claim:
In the video, Shah can be heard stating that PoK is an integral part of India and citizens living in PoK are Indians whether Hindus or Muslims, and adds on to say that JAAC will help India get PoK.

What We Found:
1) Original Video
Taking a cue from the “India Today Conclave 2024” text visible in the background of the video, we ran a keyword search on YouTube and found the original video from March 2024.
At the 33:46 timestamp, Shah can be heard saying, “PoK is India’s part, the Muslims over there are ours, the Hindus over there are ours.”
Soon after this, Rahul Kanwal asks Shah about Baloch separatists in Pakistan. This portion has been edited out in the viral video and replaced with AI-generated audio falsely making Shah say that JAAC would help India take back PoK.
2) AI-detection Tool ResultWe analysed the audio segment from the viral video using AI detection tool Hiya, which showed that it is AI-generated.
