Cropped Video Of Mamata Banerjee Resurfaces With False Communal Claim
BOOM found that Banerjee referred to the BJP’s politics as a “dirty religion” in her 2025 speech, and not Hinduism .

A cropped video of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has resurfaced online with a misleading claim that she referred to Hinduism as a “dirty religion.” BOOM found that the video is based on a cropped portion of her speech from March 31, 2025.
A complaint filed by a lawyer in Siliguri, West Bengal, led to a case being registered against Banerjee on May 26, 2026, alleging that remarks she made during an Eid celebration in Kolkata last year hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and insulted Hinduism.
The Claim:
BJP Yuva Morcha general secretary Tajinder Bagga posted the video on X claiming that the former West Bengal CM had targeted Hinduism and said that she doesn't believe in "ganda dharam”

What We Found:
1) Original 2025 Banerjee speech
We checked Banerjee’s March 31, 2025, Eid speech and found that she referred to the BJP’s politics as a “dirty religion,” claiming it was against Hinduism.
In her speech she spoke about religious harmony and referred to the teachings of Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda before criticizing BJP’s politics.
Banerjee can be heard making these remarks at the 7.40 minutes timestamp,
"Those who work in the Army have only one identity, whether they are Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs or Christians. Look at what Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda said. I follow the teachings of Rama, Krishna and Swami Vivekananda. But I do not believe in the dirty religion that this Jumla Party (BJP) deliberately created. This is even against Hinduism itself."
The complete speech can be seen below:
BOOM Hindi had previously fact-checked the same cropped video in April 2025, when it was being shared with a similar false claim that Banerjee had insulted Sanatan Dharma.
