Deepak Punia Loses Bronze Medal Bout

Deepak Punia lost in the bronze medal bout in the men's 86kg wrestling event in the dying seconds. Leading 2-1 going into the final 30 seconds, Punia's opponent from San Marino Myles Nazem Amine won two points and prevented Deepak from reversing the hold. India reviewed but to no avail. A very good Olympic debut ends in a heartbreak for the 22-year old Punia.

Ravi Kumar Wins Silver In Wrestling

Ravi Kumar Dahiya has won silver in the men's freestyle 57kg wrestling event after losing in the final to the Russian Olympic Committee's Zavur Uguev 4-7. Dahiya becomes the second Indian wrestler to win an Olympic silver medal after Sushil Kumar. Uguev started strongly and took the lead with Dahiya coming back strongly in the second half. However, Uguev defended strongly to maintain his lead.

Vinesh Phogat Out In QF

In a shock result, Vinesh Phogat has lost in the quarter-finals of the women's freestyle 53kg event. Phogat went down 0-2 early in her bout against Belarus' Vanesa Kaladzinskaya. Despite fighting back, Phogat never took the lead and trying to get a big score in the final seconds of the bout, ended up getting pinned. Kaladzinskaya wins by fall 9-3 and moves into the semi-final. Phogat could still fight for a bronze if Kaladzinskaya makes it to the final.

India Clinch Bronze In Men's Hockey

The Indian men's hockey team ended a 41-year wait for an Olympic medal by beating Germany 5-4 to clinch bronze at the Tokyo Olympics. Down 1-3, India responded superbly to take a 5-3 lead at the end of the third quarter. Germany scored in the fourth quarter to make it 5-4 but India defended well to prevent an equaliser. With six seconds left, Germant won a penalty corner but PR Sreejesh pulled off a brilliant save to clinch Indian hockey's 12th Olympic medal.

India's historic run in women's hockey at the Tokyo Olympics comes to an end with a heartbreaking loss to Argentina in the semi-final. India took the lead in the second minute from a goal by Gurjit Kaur. However, Argentina hit back with captain Maria Noel Barrionuevo scoring both her team's goals from penalty corners. India can cap a historic Olympic campaign by winning a bronze when they take on Great Britain.

Deepak Punia lost in the semi-finals of the men's 86kg semi-finals after being outclassed by the USA's David Taylor. Punia barely got a foothold in the bout and Taylor ran away with the match to win by a scoreline of 10-0 and technical superiority. Punia will now await the winner of the repechage rounds to grapple for a bronze medal.

Ravi Kumar Dahiya is into the final of the men's 57kg final assuring India of a fourth Olympic medal. Trailing 2-9 to Kazakhstan's Nurislam Sanayev with just a minute to go, Dahiya pinned his opponent to clinch a spot in the final via victory by fall.

Boxer Lovlina Borgohain has lost in the semi-final of the women's welterweight to Turkey's reigning world champion and current World No 1 Busenaz Surmeneli. Borgohain was outclassed by Surmeneli who won the bout via unanimous decision. Nevertheless, Borgohain comes back from the Tokyo Olympics as a bronze medal winner.
