Positivity Rate Of Virus Is 3-5%: ICMR
ICMR has tested a total of 1,44,910 samples as of April 9, 2020. On April 9, ICMR tested 16,002 samples of which 320 tested positive for the virus.
In the press conference, the ICMR stated that the positivity rate, the rate at which cases are testing positive is only 3-5%
India has placed orders for 1.7 crore PPE kits and 49,000 ventilators. The Ministry has identified 20 domestic manufacturers for the same.
Railways Preparedness For COVID-19
The Railways has converted over 3,250 wagons into isolation wards and has manufactured around 6 lakh reusable masks and over 40,000 sanitizers.
The Railways is also assisting with the training of 2500 doctors, 35000 para medical staff and is helping with 586 health units, 45 sub divisional hospitals, 56 divisional hospitals, 8 productive hospitals and 16 zonal hospitals.
India Reports 131 New Cases, 3 Deaths
The Ministry has reported 131 new cases and 3 new deaths in the country taking the total number of cases to 5865 and 169 deaths. New deaths have been reported in Delhi.
Genomic Sequencing Of Virus Undertaken In India
Two CISR labs- Centre for Cellular Biology in Hyderabad and Centre for Genomics and Integrative Biology, New Delhi are going to undertake the genetic sequencing of the SARS-COV-2 virus.
549 Cases In The Last 24 Hours
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported 549 new cases and 17 deaths in the country in the last 24 hours.
The government has designed a high level multidisciplinary task force that has been deployed to nine states of Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu. Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka.
India to grow at 5% in FY20, 4.8% in FY21: UN Estimates
A recent UN Report titled 'ASSESSMENT OF ECONOMIC CONDITIONS OF ASIA AND THE PACIFIC' has estimated that India will grow 5% in the recently concluded FY20 and 4.8% in FY21. These paces will be faster than most countries in the Asia Pacific region, East Asia, and Australasia. However, these estimates are as of March 10.
Odisha Extends Lockdown
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has decided to extend the state's lockdown till April 30. The state has reported 44 cases so far. Schools in the state will be shut till June 16.
Jharkhand Reports First Death
A 75-year-old man in Bokaro who had tested positive for COVID-19 died. This was the state's first death.
Multiple States Report New Cases
Since the Ministry's last update, Maharashtra reported 162 new cases taking the state's total to 1297 cases.
Rajasthan reported 30 new cases taking the total to 413 while Gujarat reported 55 new cases taking the total to 241. Bihar reported 12 new cases.
Agra in UP and Indore in MP which have been identified as hotspots reported new cases taking the total number of cases in the districts to 84 and 213. Bhopal in MP has also reported 93 cases.
Karnataka reported 10 new cases taking the total to 191. Jharkhand jumped to 13 cases.
