Their contributions span diverse fields such as education, healthcare, science, politics, business, and the arts. Despite their significant impact, women often face challenges related to gender inequality, discrimination, and limited access to resources. Globally, efforts are underway to promote women’s empowerment, focusing on equal rights, safety, education, and economic opportunities.

The role of women in society encompasses a wide range of contributions in various fields such as education, healthcare, politics, arts, and science, while also facing challenges related to gender inequality, safety, and discrimination. Governments and organizations worldwide, including in India, have implemented measures to empower women, focusing on education, healthcare, legal rights, and economic independence. Efforts such as the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, women's helpline services, and schemes for women's entrepreneurship are examples of initiatives aimed at uplifting women and addressing societal inequalities.

Women in India continue to advocate for safety, education, employment, and social justice, often through grassroots movements and community engagement. Issues like domestic violence, sexual harassment, and gender-based discrimination are persistent challenges, making awareness and public safety measures vital for women's well-being.

In August 2024, BOOM fact-checked a viral claim about a nationwide “Free Travel Scheme” supposedly launched for women by police forces across India. The claim suggested that women could travel for free on public transport using police-provided helpline numbers.

BOOM’s investigation found the claim to be misleading, confirming that the pan-India helpline numbers—1091, 100, and 112—are solely for emergency services and not linked to any free travel scheme.
