Rajnath Singh born on July 10, 1951 in Bhabhaura, Uttar Pradesh, is an Indian politician and is associated with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has served as the 29th Minister of Defence since May 2019. Singh’s political career began as a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and later joined BJP. He has held the position of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2000 to 2002 and has been a Member of Parliament for the Lok Sabha since 2014, representing the constituency of Lucknow. He also served as the Minister of Home Affairs from 2014 to 2019.
In February 2022, BOOM debunked false information being widely circulated on social media platforms which was related to Rajnath Singh.
A claim had been made that “Singh said it is fine if people don't want to vote for them, as long as they don't hurl shoes at them”. We found that Rajnath Singh made the statement in 2017 after a shoe was hurled at then Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Another false claim had been debunked by BOOM which had Rajnath Singh involved in it, was from September 2022.
A video showing Singh took hits out at the Prime Minister over the inflation issue. But we found that the video was old. In 2013, Singh criticized the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over price rise. It was being circulated widely with the intention to mislead the mass.
