Palestine is a geographic region in Western Asia. It consists of modern parts of Israel and the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza strip. The history of this land is complex and it goes back to ancient civilizations. Over centuries, it has been the focus of numerous territorial disputes and conflicts. At present, it remains at the heart of political tensions and peace efforts in the Middle East.

In January 2024, BOOM came across a video falsely claiming to show a child eating grass in Palestine, depicting the plight of the people there. BOOM found that the video had been surfacing online since February 2022 and was unrelated to the Israel-Palestine conflict. We ran a reverse image search on some of the keyframes extracted from the viral video which led us to the same video being uploaded on the internet in February 2022.

Another false claim related to Palestine was about how a Palestinian youth released from an Israeli prison, faked his injuries. BOOM was able to establish that Nazzal did indeed sustain injuries on both his hands, based on independent reports from different media outlets. We also found that the second video showing a young Palestinian boy hugging his relatives after being released from Israeli prison is not Nazzal but Mohammed Shattara.
