Labour Day or May Day, also widely known as International Workers Day, is a global celebration for the tireless efforts of the working class. On this day, workers learn about their rights, mobilize campaigns and advocate for better conditions. It serves as a catalyst for motivating them to secure improved lives for themselves and their families. The roots of Labour Day trace back to the rise of industrialization. In the late 19th century industrialists used to exploit laborers , subjecting them to grueling work hours, hazardous conditions and meager pay. In our country, “The Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan” initiated this historic event on May 1, 1923, in Chennai. Comrade Singaravelar, a leader, hoisted the red flag – the symbol of workers solidarity – for the first time in our country. His resolution called for a national holiday on Labour Day or May Day, recognizing the labor force’s immense contribution.
