Jawaharlal Nehru was a central figure in Indian politics before and after the country's independence and served as the first Prime Minister of India from 1947 until his death in 1964. Born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad, Nehru was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress and a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi during the struggle for India's independence from British rule.

Nehru played a pivotal role in shaping modern India's political and economic landscape. He was a strong advocate of democratic socialism and secularism, believing in the importance of a unified, secular state where people of all religions could coexist peacefully. Nehru’s vision for India was deeply influenced by his belief in industrialization and modernization, which he saw as necessary for India’s growth and development.

As Prime Minister, Nehru focused on building institutions, strengthening India's democratic foundations, and promoting scientific and technological advancement. He was instrumental in establishing major institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). Nehru also pursued a policy of non-alignment during the Cold War, positioning India as a leader of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Nehru's legacy is complex, with his contributions to India's development being widely acknowledged, though his policies, particularly related to the Kashmir conflict and economic planning, have been subject to criticism. His daughter, Indira Gandhi, later became Prime Minister of India, continuing the political legacy of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

In September 2019, BOOM investigated a viral claim that Jawaharlal Nehru was slapped for saying Aryans were refugees.

BOOM found that the claim was false and the image associated with it was actually from January 1962, following a stampede at the Congress Plenary session in Patna. There was no incident of Nehru being slapped for making the alleged statement.

In June 2024, BOOM investigated a viral video that falsely claimed Jawaharlal Nehru admitted he was not involved in India's freedom struggle.

BOOM found that the audio in the clip had been doctored. In the original video, Nehru was actually referring to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, stating that Jinnah was not involved in the fight for independence, not himself.
