Jairam Ramesh, born on April 9, 1954, in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, is an Indian politician and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress (INC). He is known for his work as an environmentalist, economist, and policy strategist. Ramesh has held key positions, including Union Minister for Rural Development and Minister of Environment and Forests, where he implemented several initiatives aimed at sustainable development, environmental protection, and social welfare. He is currently a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha and serves as the Congress Party’s General Secretary in charge of communications, playing a crucial role in shaping the party's policies and media outreach.
