Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda, often referred as, H. D. Deve Gowda, born in Haradanahalli village of Karnataka. He entered politics by joining the Indian National Congress party in 1953 and remained a member until 1962. He then contested the Legislative Assembly polls independently from the Holenarasipur constituency and won. Deve Gowda’s political journey continued as he joined Janata Party in 1977, after which he served as the Minister of Public Works and Irrigation in Karnataka from 1983 to 1988. He became the Chief Minister of Karnataka in 1994 to 1996. Deve Gowda also held the position of the Prime Minister of India, from June 1996 to April 1997. He continued to be active in politics, serving as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing Karnataka. He is also the national president of Janata Dal (Secular) party.

In March 2024, BOOM found a misleading video being spread, in which “Karnataka CM Saying 'Wish To Be Reborn As Muslim' Is Misleading”.

We found that the viral video was clipped out of the context, where CM Siddaramaiah was actually quoting Deve Gowda. The first part of his sentence where he names Dewe Gowda and the last part of the sentence where he attacks him for allying with the BJP has been cropped out of the viral video to remove the context and mislead viewers

BOOM also found that Siddaramaiah in an interview in February made the same comments about Deve Gowda's old statements.
