BOOM recently debunked a few misleading claims about the Golden Temple that circulated during the diplomatic row between India and Canada following the killing of Pro-Khalistani Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
A viral notice falsely linked the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, to a notice condemning Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a pro-Khalistan group. The notice, supposedly from the temple, criticized BKI's actions and encouraged Sikhs to support democratic means. However, an official from the temple confirmed the notice as fake. BOOM found that Golden Temple had not issued such a notice.
Another video purportedly showing the Canadian High Commissioner visiting the Golden Temple also circulated online. However, BOOM found that the video actually showed the High Commissioner visiting Gurdwara Bangla Sahib in Delhi in October 2022, not the Golden Temple in Punjab.
