Bengaluru, also known as Bangalore, is the capital of Karnataka and one of India’s largest cities. Known as the Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru is a major hub for information technology, startups, and innovation. It is home to several prestigious institutions like the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and numerous multinational companies. In August 2024, BOOM fact-checked a viral claim about dog meat being seized at a Bengaluru station. The claim sparked outrage on social media, with users sharing the news widely.

BOOM’s investigation revealed that tests conducted by the Hyderabad-based National Research Centre on Meat (NRCM) found the seized meat to be from sheep, not dogs, as initially alleged.
