Akhilesh Yadav

Akhilesh Yadav, born on July 1, 1973, in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh, is an Indian politician and the current leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP). He served as the 20th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 to 2017, becoming the youngest person to hold this position at the age of 38. As the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav has been a significant figure in Uttar Pradesh politics, advocating for development, social welfare, and youth empowerment.

Akhilesh Yadav's tenure as Chief Minister was marked by initiatives focused on infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and welfare schemes like the Samajwadi Pension Yojana and Laptop Distribution Scheme. He prioritized projects such as the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, the Lucknow Metro, and improvements in power supply and healthcare infrastructure. Known for his tech-savvy approach and youth-oriented programs, Yadav sought to modernize governance in Uttar Pradesh during his time in office.

Following the defeat of the Samajwadi Party in the 2017 state elections, Yadav has remained active in state and national politics. He continues to advocate for issues such as farmers' welfare, employment opportunities, and social justice, positioning the Samajwadi Party as the primary opposition force in Uttar Pradesh.

In July 2020, BOOM fact-checked a viral tweet falsely attributed to Akhilesh Yadav, which claimed that he opposed the construction of the Ram Mandir and stated that it would not have been built if the Samajwadi Party were in power.

BOOM found out that the tweet was fake, clarifying that Yadav never made such remarks.
