        Lockdown Likely To Be Extended In Mumbai, Pune

        The Maharashtra government is likely to extend the lockdown in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune, Malegaon and Aurangabad till May 31, reports the Indian Express. The nation-wide lockdown is set to end on May 17 but urban areas have reported a steady rise in cases. In a cabinet meeting, CM Uddhav Thackeray also discussed what activities can be allowed in areas outside the containment zones in red zone districts.

        India's Total Case Count Cross 80,000 Mark

        In the past 24 hours, India has added 3,967 cases to take the total cases tally to 81,970. India has doubled its case tally in 12 days. 100 patients died as the death toll rose to 2,649. The death toll in Maharashtra crossed the 1000 mark with 1,019 deaths while the total case count stood at 27,524.

        167 Passengers Of Surat-Haridwar Shramik Special Train 'Missing'

        167 passengers of a Shramik Special train from Surat to Hardiwar have gone missing, reports PTI. Haridwar District Magistrate C Ravishankar said that the list of passengers shared from Surat did not match the number of passengers who disembarked the train in Haridwar. Out of the 1,340 passengers who had left Surat, only 1,173 passengers got off the train.

        Sixth Mumbai Police Officer Dies Of COVID-19

        A police officer posted at the Shivaji Nagar police station has succumbed to COVID-19, reports PTI. The 45-year-old police naik was undergoing treatment at a private hospital for the last few days, Six members of the Mumbai police force have died due to the novel coronavirus.

        Coronavirus May Never Be Eradicated: WHO

        The World Health Organisation has warned that the world might never be rid of the novel coronavirus. According to a Guardian report, Michael Ryan, the Executive Director of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme said, "It is important to put this on the table: this virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities, and this virus may never go away." A report by the WHO's mental health department has also warned of an impending mental health crisis and there would be a rise in mental health issues in children, young people and healthcare workers.

        In a statement on Thursday, the Indian Railways announced that all regular tickets booked till 30 June will be cancelled. However, all Shramik and special trains will continue to operate.

        14 Migrants Killed In Two Separate Road Accidents

        Six migrants were killed after being run over by a UP government bus in Muzzafarnagar. Eight migrants were killed and over 50 injured in Guna, Madhya Pradesh after the truck they were travelling in collided with a bus.

        According to an NDTV report, the migrants killed in the Muzaffarnagar accident were on their way to their hometowns in Bihar from Punjab when a UP government bus ran over them at 11 pm on Wednesday. Two migrants were also injured in the accident. The police have arrested the driver of the bus. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the dead while the injured will get Rs 50,000.

        The migrants involved in the Guna accident were on their way to Uttar Pradesh from Maharashtra when a bus collided with their truck, according to an India Today report.

        India Adds 3,722 Cases; Death Toll Rises By 134

        India added 3,722 cases to take its case count to 78,003 while 134 patients succumbed to COVID-19 to take the death toll to 2,549. The active cases stand at 49,219 while 26,234 patients have been discharged.

        Maharashtra allocates ₹54.75 crores to pay for migrants' movement

        The Chief Minister of Maharashtra's office on Wednesday tweeted that CM Uddhav Thackeray had approved the allocation of ₹54.75 crores from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund the to fund migrants returning to their states, or those wanting to come back through the Shramik Special trains. This amount has already been transferred to the District Collectors.


        To purchase Shramik Train tickets for migrant labour stranded in Maharashtra & to bring back the ones stranded in other States, CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has approved ₹54.75Crore from the CMRF. This amount has been transferred to the District Collectors. https://t.co/Mw8Arc5oqR

        Maharashtra Crosses 25,000 Cases

        Maharashtra reported 1400 new cases and 54 new deaths on May 13. The state has reported over 25 thousand cases of COVID-19, 15 thousand of which are from Mumbai.
