        Maharashtra PWD Minister Ashok Chavan Tests Positive For COVID-19

        Public Works Department Minister and former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has tested for COVID-19. Chavan is currently admitted in a Nanded Hospital and had been in home quarantine for the last few days. Chavan is the second minister in the Uddhav Thackeray government to test positive for COVID-19 after Housing Minister Jitendra Ahwad.

        US Imposes Travel Ban On Brazil

        US President Donald Trump has imposed a travel ban on Brazil in a move to limit travel from coronavirus hot spots across the world, reports AP. The US and Brazil are the hardest-hit countries during the COVID-19 pandemic with almost 2 million cases between them. “Today’s action will help ensure foreign nationals who have been in Brazil do not become a source of additional infections in our country,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said.

        India Adds Nearly 7,000 New Cases In 24 Hours

        According to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India added 6,977 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours to take the total case count to 1,38,845. This is the highest one-day spike for the 4th day in a row. 154 patients died due to the disease to take the death toll to 4,021. 57,720 patients have been discharged so far.

        Maharashtra Reports Highest Spike In Cases

        On Sunday, May 24, Maharashtra reported 3041 new cases, its highest spike since the pandemic started. The state has now reported over 50 thousand cases. 

        The state reported 58 new deaths and 1,196 people were discharged.

        Oxford COVID-19 Vaccine Trial Has Only 50% Chance Of Success

        Adrian Hill, the project leader of the University of Oxford's COVID-19 vaccine trial, has said that there is only a 50% chance of the trial being a success. The experimental vaccine, known as ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, is one of the front-runners in the race to find a vaccine for the novel coronavirus.

        India Records Highest One-Day Spike In Cases For 3rd Day In A Row

        India recorded it's highest one-day spike in COVID-19 cases for a 3rd day in a row after adding 6,767 cases according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. India's total positive case count stands at 1,31,868. 147 patients died due to COVID-19 to take the death toll to 3,867. 54,440 patients have been discharged from hospitals.

        40 Lakh Migrants Ferried By Shramik Trains: Govt

        Shramik special trains have ferried 40 lakh migrants to their home state since May 1, Railway Board chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav said in a press briefing on Saturday. Yadav also said that 80% of the passengers have been ferried to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Over the next 10 days, a further 36 lakh migrants will travel on the Shramik trains. Yadav also said that the central government is bearing 85 per cent of the expenditure while states are paying 15 per cent through fares.

        ICMR Revises Advisory On Hydroxychloroquine Use

        The ICMR has issued a revised advisory recommending the use of hydroxychloroquine as a preventive medicine for asymptomatic healthcare workers working in non-COVID-19 hospitals, frontline staff on surveillance duty in containment zones and paramilitary/police personnel involved in coronavirus infection related activities. The ICMR has also cautioned that the usage of HCQ should not instill a false sense of security.

        India Records Highest One-Day Spike In Cases For 2nd Day In A Row

        According to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India added 6,654 positive COVID-19 cases, it's highest one-day spike for the second successive day. India's total case count stands at 1,25,101. 137 patients succumbed to COVID-19 taking the death toll to 3,720. 51,783 patients have been discharged so far.

        1,093 COVID-19 Care Centres, 1,85,306 Bed Available: Dr VK Paul

        Dr VK Paul, Chairman of the Empowered Group says that 1,093 centres for COVID-19 care have been made and 1,85,306 beds have been made available. 522 laboratories for testing have been made available. 30 lakh PPEs have been supplied to states and 109 medical equipment suppliers have started production and the manufacturing capacity of PPE kits now is 3 lakh per day, says Dr Paul.
