        Railways Asks Passengers With Comorbidities To Avoid Shramik Trains

        The Ministry of Railways has asked passengers not to travel by the Shramik Special trains if they are suffering from pre-existing medical conditions. The list of comorbidities include hypertension, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases, cancer, immune deficiency conditions. Pregnant women and children below the age of 10 years and persons above 65 years have also been asked to avoid rail travel except when it is essential. The appeal comes after many passengers were reported to have died on board Shramik Special trains which are being operated to ferry migrants stuck in other states due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

        India Records Highest One-day Spike In New Cases

        India recorded its highest one-day spike in new COVID-19 cases after 7,466 people tested positive in the last 24 hours to take the total case count to 1,65,799. 175 patients succumbed to the disease as the death toll rose to 4,706. 71,105 patients have been discharged so far.

        COVID-19 Fallout Could Push 86 Million More Children Into Poverty: UNICEF

        A report by UNICEF and Save The Children has stated that the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic will see an additional 86 million children being pushed into household poverty by the end of 2020. According to the report, the number of children living in poverty will rise to 672 million, an increase of 15 percent. "The scale and depth of financial hardship among families threatens to roll back years of progress in reducing child poverty and to leave children deprived of essential services. Without concerted action, families barely getting by could be pushed into poverty, and the poorest families could face levels of deprivation that have not been seen for decades," said Henrietta Fore, UNICEF Executive Director.

        14 Million Latin Americans At Risk Of Starvation Due To COVID-19: UN

        The United Nations World Food Program has warned of "hunger pandemic" in South America due to the COVID-19 pandemic, reports AP. Miguel Barreto, the WFP’s regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean said that while 3.4 million people in Latin America experienced food scarcity in 2019, that number could rise to 14 million due to the pandemic.

        India's Total Case Count Rises By 6,566; Death Toll At 4,531

        India's total number of positive COVID-19 cases rose by 6,566 in the last 24 hours to take the total case count to 1,58,333 according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. A 194 patients succumbed to the disease as the death toll reached 4,531. 67,691 patients have been discharged so far.

        SC Asks Govt. To Identify Private Hospitals To Treat COVID-19 Patients For Free

        The Supreme Court has asked the government to identify private hospitals which could treat COVID-19 patients for free or at a nominal cost, reports PTI. "They (private hospitals) have been given land either free of cost or at a very nominal rates. These charitable hospitals should treat patients for free," the bench led by Justice Bobde said.
