        Bengaluru Has The Third Highest COVID-19 Case Load

        Bengaluru crossed Mumbai to become the city with the third highest COVID-19 total case load in the country. The city that was performing well until the end of July saw a spurt in cases in August and September and its total case load is now close to 1.71 lakh. Mumbai, once the topmost COVID-19 hotspot has 1.69 lakh total cases. 

        Pune is the worst affected city with a case load of 2.32 lakh while Delhi with 2.18 lakh cases ranks second.

        Monsoon Session Of Lok Sabha Follows Social Distancing Norms

        The Lok Sabha's monsoon session began on September 14 where the members of the Parliament have been separated by sheets and are expected to wear masks. For the 18-day-session, the MPs are expected to register their attendance digitally through an Attendance Registration application. 

        Owing to the sheet separators and social distancing norms, the members are now allowed to sit and discuss their questions. The members were expected to stand while addressing the Speaker and the house, earlier.

        India Reports 90,000+ New COVID-19 Cases For Fifth Consecutive Day

        India has reported more than 90,000 new COVID-19 cases for the fifth day in a row after 92,071 people tested positive for the disease. Of the 48,46,427 total cases, 9,86,958 are active cases while 37,80,107 patients have been cured or discharged so far. The death toll has increased to 79,722 after 1,136 patients died due to the disease.

        Maharashtra's 'My Family, My Responsibility' Programme To Begin From September 15

        Maharashtra, the state with the highest COVID-19 case load is set to begin a new initiative called 'My Family, My Responsibility', from September 15.

        Under this campaign, volunteers appointed by the Public Health Department will reach out to every family in the  area and go door-to-door to check temperature and oxygen levels. The project aims to target 2.25 crore families through this endeavour. 

        At the same time, important messages related to healthcare will be given to the citizens and search for suspected patients of COVID-19 and provision of referral services for treatment will be implemented. The campaign will also provide referral treatment to people with co-morbidities such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, obesity.

        Volunteers will meet each family twice during the campaign.

        AstraZeneca Resumes Oxford Vaccine Trial In UK

        Pharma giant AstraZeneca has resumed its vaccine trials for AZD1222 in UK, after the Medicines Health Regulatory in UK said it was safe to do so. In a statement, the company shared that pharma and University of Oxford could not disclose further medical information. The company is working with health authorities across the world to resume clinical trials in the respective countries so that the vaccine can be distributed equitably. 

        On, September 8, the company declared that it had halted the trials after a participant exhibited symptoms of a suspected adverse reaction after vaccine inoculation.

        Home Minister Amit Shah Admitted To AIIMS Again For Post- COVID Care

        Late on September 12, Home Minister Amit Shah was admitted to AIIMS hospital after he felt uneasy and had difficulty in breathing. This is the third time that Shah has been admitted to hospitals since testing positive for COVID-19 on August 2. He was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for 12 days. 

        Three days after his discharge from Medanta, Shah was taken to AIIMS on August 17 as he felt uneasy. He was discharged from AIIMS on August 31.

        Government Releases Post-COVID-19 Management Protocol

        As the number of COVID-19 recoveries increase, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare released a post COVID-19 management protocol that enlists steps recovered patients should follow. The Ministry is promoting the consumption of a list of AYUSH medicines but only if they have been prescribed by a medical practitioner. 

        People isolated at home are required to continue wearing masks, do moderate exercise and yoga, get adequate sleep and rest, keep monitoring their temperature, pressure and oxygen levels. People who were admitted should follow up with the health facility a week after being discharged. 

        Through the doctor's recommendation, they should then choose either a medical or an AYUSH practitioner for further recommendations. Poly-therapy should be avoided as they can lead to adverse reactions

        India Records 90K+ Cases For Fourth Straight Day

        India's total COVID-19 case load has crossed 47,54,356 after the country reported 94,372 new cases in the last 24 hours. The country has been reporting over 90,000 cases since the last four days. 

        The death toll reached 78,586 after 1,114 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.The number of active cases stands at 9,73,175 while 37,05,595 cases have recovered from SARS-CoV-2.

        Dining Out Likely To Increase Risk Of COVID-19 Spread: CDC Report

        Dining out and visiting pubs and cafes is likely to increase the risk of contracting the novel coronavirus according to a study published in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The study noted that dining at a restaurant was reported by twice the adults who tested positive over those who tested negative.

        Mumbai 'Dabbadwallas' Urge State Govt. To Permit Local Train Travel For Them

        Mumbai's famous dabbawallas have urged the Maharashtra government to allow them to travel in local trains, reports PTI. "Dabbawalas are also part of essential services are they deliver food to Mumbaikars. And since most officers are now functioning with reduced capacity, people have been asking us to deliver their meals," Subhash Talekar, president of Mumbai Dabbawala Association said. Talekar said that there has never been a six-month interruption in tiffin services for over 130 years and added that a proposal to assuring a financial assistance of Rs 5,000 per dabbawala has been discussed by the state cabinet but is yet to be approved.
