        India Reports 40K+ Cases; Number Of Recovered Crosses 7 Lakh

        India reported 40,425 new cases, its highest one-day spike in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases in the country to 11,18,043. 

        The death toll now stands at 27,497 after the country reported 681 new fatalities. 

        The number of active cases has risen to 3,90,459 while over 7 lakh patients have recovered.

        Chennai Becomes First City To Conduct Over Five Lakh PCR Tests

        Chennai Corporation has conducted over five lakh RT-PCR tests, making it the first Indian city to cross this testing figure. According to officials, the positivity rate in city ranges between 5-8%

        Tamil Nadu Reports Highest One Day Spike

        With 4,979 cases on Sunday, Tamil Nadu reported its highest one-day-spike in COVID-19 cases and crossed 1.70 lakh cases. The state reported 78 deaths taking the death toll to 2,481.

        Maharashtra Reports Over Nine Thousand Cases

         In its highest one day spike, Maharashtra reported over 9518 cases of COVID-19 raising the total number of cases 3,10,455. Currently, over 1,28,730 people are currently active while close to 1.7 lakh people have recovered. The state has reported 11,854 deaths, 258 of which came today. 

        Mumbai which was earlier the epicenter reported fewer cases than yesterday. Pune is emerging as the newer hotspot as the areas under Pune division reported 3443 cases today, 1812 of which are from areas under the Pune Municipal Corporation

        Arunachal Pradesh To Continue Lockdown Till August 3

        The Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to extend its lockdown in the Capital Complex which includes Naharalagun and Itanagar till August 3. 

        The chief secretary Naresh Kumar announced that no movement of people and vehicles, other than those of essential services, will be allowed during the period.

        The district administration will ensure home delivery of essential items. Grocery stores in sectors and colonies would be allowed to open. The eastern-most state has reported 650 cases and three deaths so far.

        AIIMS To Finally Start COVAXIN Trials From Monday

        The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi finally received approval from its ethical committee to participate in the human trials for Bharat Biotech's COVAXIN trials. Dr. Sanjay Rai, principal investigator for this trial at AIIMS told ANI that the institute will start enrolling individiuals for the trials from Monday, July 20. 

        The trial was intended to begin from July 7 in all the eight participating medical colleges. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) received flak as it wrote to these colleges to complete their phase I/II trials by August 15.

        Karnataka Blames Inter-State Travel For Sudden Spurt In Cases

        Officials in the southern state of Karnataka blame inter-state travel on the sudden spurt of cases in the state. The state that was lauded for its control of the virus has now reported nearly 60,000 cases of the virus. 

        According to the officials, inter-state travel with Maharastra is the reason for the surge in cases. Since June 1, the state has reported 56,244 new cases which forms 95% of the total case load.

        Uttarakhand To Act Strictly On Fake COVID-Free Certificates

        Uttarakhand Chief Minister TS Rawat is going to take strict action against citizens entering the state as they have found people showing fake COVID-19 free certificates to enter the state. Rawat has asked state officials to verify these certificates without inconveniencing the tourists. 

        The state has a total of 4,276 confirmed cases of which 3,081 have recovered.

        India Witnesses Highest One Day Rise With Nearly 39,000 Cases

        India reported its highest one-day spike with 38,902 cases taking the country's total number of cases to 10,77,618. The country reported a dip in deaths with 543 cases resulting in a total death toll of 26,816. 

        The number of recovered cases are at 6,77,423 while the number of active cases are at 3,73,379. Over 23,672 people recovered in the last 24 hours. The difference between active and recovered cases stands at a little over 3 lakh

        Chennai Reports Dip In COVID-19 Positivity Ratio

        Chennai has reported a dip in COVID-19 positivity ratio even as it ramps up testing, reports PTI. The city has now reported a positivity ratio of about 12%, down from 37% a month ago. GCC Commissioner G Prakash said that the 12-day lockdown also helped in reducing the virus' transmission. "When 4,000 samples were tested in the past, there were 1,400-1,500 positive cases. And of the 13,000 samples being tested now, only 1,200 to 1,250 positive cases are being reported," Prakash said.
