      COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker: India To Begin Vaccination For 18-45 From May 1

      The government has administered 12 crore doses so far but some states are running out of supplies

      India has reported more than 1.5 crore positive cases of COVID-19 since January 30, 2020. With over 1.8 lakh deaths and nearly 86% of the positive cases having recovered, India has now approved three vaccines to be given to the population.

      In the first phase, the government intends to vaccinate over one crore health workers followed by two crore other frontline workers. The Centre will bear the cost of vaccinating these three crore COVID-19 warriors.

      Since March 1, government started vaccination for people above the age of 60 and those living with co-morbidities. From April 1, the government started vaccinating people everybody the age of 45.

      Beginning May 1, the government intends to open vaccination for people above the age of 18 at private sectors

        Start With 3000 Vaccination Sites, Ramp Up By End Of January: VK Paul

        In an interview with NDTV, Niti Aayog member Dr. V. K. Paul has stated that on the inaugural vaccination day as well as for the first fifteen days, there will be 3,000 vaccination sites functional in the country. By the end of the month, the government intends to ramp up this number to more than 5,000 sites.

        Delhi To Vaccinate 8,100 Healthcare Workers Daily: Arvind Kejriwal

        Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has announced that 8,100 healthcare workers in 81 centres will be vaccinated against COVID-19 daily from January 16. Stating that 100 vaccines will be administered daily at each centre, Kejriwal added that the vaccination drive will be conducted every week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. He added that the vaccination centres will be steadily increased to 156 centres and 1,000 centres. Delhi has been allotted 2,74,000 doses of vaccine by the Union Government to vaccinate approximately 1,20,000 out of 2,40,000 healthcare workers in Delhi.

        Vaccine Manufacturers To Be Held Liable For Adverse Effects

        Indian vaccine manufacturers will be held liable for compensating individuals if any serious or adverse events arise after the participants have been administered the vaccine. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has denied the requests of the manufacturers being indemnified by the government for any untoward mishaps.

        Recipients Will Not Be Given Options To Choose Vaccine

        As India has approved both Covishield and Covaxin for emergency use, it is rolling out both the vaccines simultaneously. However, beneficiaries will not be given the freedom to choose which vaccine they want to opt for. 

        Answering a question pertaining to people having the option to choose to receive the COVID-19 vaccine they wish to, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan highlighted that the choice of vaccines was not available to any residents in the countries that have rolled out COVID-19 vaccines.

        Vaccines To Reach All Areas By Jan 14

        All the 1.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines are expected to reach all the vaccination sites across the country by January 14.

        Centre purchases over 1.6 million COVID-19 doses

        The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has purchased over 110 lakh doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from Serum Institute of India at ₹200 per dose.

        Along with Serum Institute of India, the Ministry has also procured over 55 lakh doses from Bharat Biotech at ₹295 per dose. However, Bharat Biotech is offering over 16.5 lakh doses for free to the Centre. Thus, the Bharat Biotech COVID-19 vaccine is available for ₹206 per dose
