Fake Amul Ad Targeting Gandhi Family Revived

Claim

A photoshopped image of a billboard showing an illustration of the Amul girl with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra along with the text that takes a dig at the Gandhi family has resurfaced on X recently. The Hindi text in the image translates to, "Grandfather ate, grandmother ate, father ate, mother ate and sister you also eat and call brother-in-law." (Original Hindi text: "नाना ने खाया, दादीने खाया , पापा ने खाया , मम्मी ने खाया आओ बहना तुम भी खालो जीजू को भी यहाँ बुला लो"). The image was shared on X with the caption, “Brilliant Ad... says lot without saying or calling names.. buy you know who they are.” (sic.)

BOOM had debunked the same fake advertisement, when it went viral in 2019. We ran a reverse image search and found identical images of the same car with different images on the billboard. This showed the advertisement had been morphed into the billboard. Further, we did a reverse image search with the cropped image of the illustration and found the original Amul ad posted on January 24, 2019. Amul posted the advertisement with the caption, “#Amul Topical: Priyanka Gandhi joins politics!” In 2019 when the image went viral on social media BOOM reached out to daCunha Communications, the advertising agency behind the Amul campaign. Rahul Da Cunha, creative director at the agency confirmed that the viral photo was fake.
