A video purportedly showing West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will only work for Hindus and eradicate the 27 per cent Muslim population from the state after an election victory is fake and AI-generated.
BOOM tested the video using multiple AI detector models, which flagged several inconsistencies commonly associated with deepfake videos. In the original video published by news agency PTI, Adhikari cannot be heard making any such remarks.

What We Found: Viral Video Is A Deepfake
1. The Original PTI Video Report: We first noticed in the viral video that Suvendu Adhikari’s body movements did not appear natural and showed multiple consistent visual glitches. Additionally, the facial structure of the West Bengal Chief Minister appeared to change in the last moments of the footage, which are common indicators of videos generated using face swap or AI motion animation technology, also known as deepfakes.
Furthermore, the viral video carried a watermark of news agency PTI (Press Trust of India). We then broke the video into keyframes and conducted a reverse image search on them using Google Lens, which led us to the original video report published by PTI on May 6, 2026. In the original footage, Adhikari is seen holding a press conference, and the background matches that of the viral video.
However, Adhikari does not make any such communal remarks.
2. AI Detector Tools Flag Manipulation: For further confirmation, we tested the video using multiple AI detection tools, including Resemble AI and Deepfake-o-Meter, a tool developed by the University at Buffalo. These tools used several AI detection models and concluded that the video contains AI-generated content.
However, Suvendu Adhikari has made controversial remarks in the past. After winning from the Nandigram constituency in the Bengal Assembly polls, Adhikari had claimed that he would work only for the Hindus of the area as the entire Muslim vote was directed towards the Trinamool Congress; and he won because of the Hindu voters.
Adhikari made a similar remark about his Bhabanipur win against Mamata Banerjee. Adhikari has in the past made comments about excluding Muslim MLAs from the assembly, had the BJP come to power in the state.
